This year at Peculiar UMC, we are walking through the Bible together as one unfolding story—a story that leads us, again and again, to Jesus. We are tracing the larger story of Scripture from beginning to end, pausing along the way for seasons like Lent, Easter, and Advent, allowing them to illuminate the heart of the story. Each week, we take time to remember where we are—not so anyone feels behind, but so we remember that we belong inside this story, and that God is still at work. Together, we are reclaiming Scripture as life-giving: a living testimony of a faithful, loving God who hears, delivers, forms, and dwells with God’s people.

Now we move into the next great movement of the story—the story of liberation. In these weeks, we journey with God’s people from slavery to freedom, from oppression to promise, from chaos toward covenant. We encounter a God who hears the cries of the suffering, confronts the powers that bind, and makes a way where there seems to be none. This is not freedom for freedom’s sake, but freedom with purpose—shaped by relationship, guided by love, and rooted in God’s desire to dwell among the people. These stories invite us to wrestle with deep and essential questions: What does it mean to be truly free? How does God shape a people after setting them free? And how do we learn to trust God in the wilderness, when the path forward is still unfolding?

This is not just Israel’s story. It is our story, too. And you are here in it—still being formed, still being led, still held by the God who makes a way.

 – For the past few years, several of us at Peculiar UMC have made a commitment to read the Bible together in a year. I can honestly say, it has been life-transforming. Reading Scripture daily doesn’t just help us “get through” the Bible, it helps the Bible get into us.  It draws us closer to God, shapes our daily walk, and reminds us that we are part of one beautiful, unfolding story of God’s love. As we begin again, I’d love to invite you to join myself and others from our church, community, and friend groups in reading the Bible together using the YouVersion Bible App and the plan:

BibleProject: One Story that Leads to Jesus    This plan helps us see how all of Scripture points to Christ, offering short, thoughtful insights that bring clarity, encouragement, and hope along the way. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar. You don’t have to be perfect or consistent. You just have to be willing to show up — even on the days you miss a reading or feel a little behind. Grace is built in. If you’d like to join our group, you can use this link:  (please feel free to share!)

Let’s keep walking this journey together —learning, growing, and being shaped by God’s Word, one day at a time. I would love to read alongside you. -Pastor Wendy Minshall
