First Sunday of Lent, March 9th, Lenten ASH Service
This Sunday, March 9th, is the first Sunday of Lent, a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. Since we were unable to have our Ash Wednesday Service, we will have the imposition of ashes during the service Sunday morning.
What do the ashes mean?  The ashes we receive are a visible sign of an invisible truth: that we are dust, and to dust we shall return. They remind us of our mortality, our need for repentance, and God’s deep, abiding grace. The cross of ashes on our foreheads or hands is not just a symbol of our sin but also of Christ’s redemption. It is a call to turn away from what separates us from God and to turn toward the life and hope we find in Jesus. As we enter this season of Lent, the ashes remind us that even in our brokenness, God is at work, shaping us for new life.

BRINGING IT TO THE TABLE, A Worship Series:– Big Idea of the Series: Anxiety can be overwhelming when things feel so unsettled. Health, finances, relationships, family dynamics, the election- and all the rhetoric that goes with it… But does it have to be this way? Don’t we have more to focus on and give thanks for? We see division and polarization in our country, communities and even inside the walls of our own churches. It’s easy to wonder if we will ever go beyond agreeing to disagree, yet Jesus shows us a better way. Jesus taught us that we should treat others as we want to be treated. This is commonly known as The Golden Rule, and holds the power to bring people together again. As we attempt to come together, the idea is not that we are obliterating either one or trying to change each other, but rather we discover the beauty that can be created when we work together to make the world a better place. The “purple space” is where we cultivate kindness, compassion, humility, respect, and love for one another and for the good of all the world, no matter what.    “Do Unto Others as you would have them do unto you.”  – Matthew 7:12

This Lent, we are focusing on the life and faith of one of Jesus’ most famous disciples. In Peter, we see a person who is both steadfast and unsteady, a dear friend and a betrayer, a follower and a wanderer. In Peter, we often see ourselves. By following Peter’s journey, we watch the story of Jesus unfold through the eyes of a very normal human trying to figure it all out—just like us.  When you look closely at Peter’s story, you find Jesus at each step along the way—offering him abundance, catching him when he begins to sink, challenging him when he stands in the way, washing his feet, predicting his betrayal, and offering him agapē love. This Lent, we’re joining Peter in figuring out faith. Join us as we wander alongside him, learning about Jesus (and ourselves) by stepping in Peter’s shoes.

About the sermon series, “Encounters with Jesus”: How do we go about living the ‘resurrected life’? The scriptures share with us vital accounts of people meeting Jesus, face to face, and how their lives were dramatically transformed! Over the course of the next few weeks, we will look at these post-resurrection encounters and see how Jesus- the teacher, healer, redeemer, deliverer, and Savior- not only changed THEIR life, but changes our life as well so that we can LIVE OUT the resurrected life!

April 9, 2023 – Easter Service 10:30 am – Message by Wendy Minshall: Resurrection Sunday: “Living the Resurrected Life” – Scripture Reference – Luke 24:1-12

Jesus came to lift up the lowly. Throughout his ministry to his final days on the road to the cross, we find stories of his relationships with ordinary, flawed, and unexpected people. He met, dined, and traveled with people who were not perfect. Many of them were struggling, some were outsiders or even outlaws. Whoever they were, from those he healed to the outlaws with him at his crucifixion, Jesus brought the good news of God’s kingdom to those who most needed to hear it. Throughout the season of Lent, we will explore the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Luke. Through Luke’s stories we find Jesus’ care and compassion for all as he welcomes sinners and outcasts. As we study Luke and see Jesus’ concern for those who were considered unimportant, we hear a hopeful and inspiring word for our lives today.
